Dramatic Results Teaches Math and More Through Art
March 30th, 2012
Using basket weaving and origami helps math concepts "stick".
Dramatic Results, a nonprofit based in Long Beach, California, was profiled on NPR as part of KUSP's Solutions in Education series - click here to listen to the podcast.
Dramatic Results' mission is to facilitate student success by stimulating curiosity and fostering creativity through a hands-on, arts-based approach to learning. It specializes in curriculum that integrates art into other core academic subjects, meeting California content standards, and the needs of a diverse student population.
And its results are proven. The graph below illustrates that more Math-In-A-Basket students reach math proficiency than those that take stand-alone math. Its InCreasing Math program uses origami to teach math, and the Write-On Arts program combines visual and theatre arts to help students express themselves verbally and visually.
Dramatic Results is celebrating it's 20th anniversary in May 2012. The Frieda C. Fox Family Foundation is proud to support this amazing organization.
