Recent Grant Awards
In recent cycles, grants have been awarded to organizations whose missions and programs must fit within our current initiative, strongly align with our mission and values, comply with eligibility requirements, and accomplish one or more of the following:

  • Improve and expand the scope of learning environments of children and youth, especially those from economically and socially disadvantaged families.

  • Promote positive interactions among children, youth, and adults through programs that actively involve parents, staff and volunteers, and embrace on-going professional development for those that deal directly with children and create their learning environments.

  • With special interest given to proposed projects that offer a high return on investment, defined by an opportunity to create a synergistic effect on funding, a means to increase the organization's economic self-sufficiency or similar projects that will enhance efficiency and benefit the organization for the long term.

Grants 2004
A Place Called Home
Los Angeles, CA. Established 25 music scholarships for low-income, at-risk youth within the context of a multi-faceted after-school program in South Central Los Angeles. The curriculum utilizes best practices and the program includes a research component, impact assessment, and youth/family responsibility. This program is an expansion of services that provide at-risk youth with a secure, positive family environment where they can regain hope and belief, earn trust and self-respect and learn skills to lead a productive lifestyle free of the gangs, drugs and poverty that surrounds them. Also, supported the Summer Program and purchased play therapy equipment for the Davidow Counseling Center.

Bright Prospect Scholar Support Program
Los Angeles, CA. Support of high achieving, disadvantaged youth in a five year program (senior year high school through senior year college) which includes scholarships for high school seniors from low income families, for no-cost college prep services that remove economic obstacles to college entry, and development and implementation of a Fund Development Plan to support an expansion project for additional high school seniors to enter the program in each of the next five years.

California Community Partners for Youth (CCPY)
San Jose, CA. Support of 'Step Up' program at Yerba Buena High School, a year-long extra-curricular mentoring and training program for high-risk 9th graders, to improve attendance, grades, self-esteem and developmental assets. This program integrates adult/youth mentoring, family participation, staff development, and community support to enable youth to make a successful transition into high school, minimize disciplinary actions, and build the developmental assets they need to succeed.

Diabetes Society of Santa Clara Valley
Palo Alto, CA. Program support and fees scholarships for 2004 Youth Education Summer Camps program for children & teens with Diabetes, as well as family camps. Funds will be used for full and partial scholarships based on financial need, so children of all economic backgrounds can have a safe, fun learning environment in which to become educated about their medical and health needs, and to engage in activities with similarly affected children where they are encouraged to reach for their potential.

Santa Clara County, CA. Startup costs for a Youth Volunteer Mentoring Program to seed a Bay Area replication of a proven program. High-achieving, volunteer-oriented teens/college students are mentored and educated by health and education professionals, then take that learning Òon the roadÓ in teams of two to mentor, Òbefriend,Ó and provide enrichment activities for special needs children on a weekly basis.

Jeremiah's Promise
JeremiahÕs Promise, Palo Alto, CA. Program support for capacity building for this 18-month transitional program teaching life skills and offering academic/comprehensive support for females who have emancipated out of the foster care system. Utilizing the Greenhouse at Film Garden film they will work to attract strategic partners, as a client recruiting tool, as a volunteer recruitment tool, to attract donors to support operational needs, and to attract highly-qualified staff for the menÕs and other future homes.
